Back to School Tips and Ideas…lots of them!

Teacher Wisdom

It’s that time of year again. You know, when Target starts loading their shelves with notebooks and crayons. I hope you have enjoyed your summer and find yourself refreshed and re-energized for your new set of kids who you will undoubtedly meet soon!

I thought I would make your planning a little easier for you by sharing some of my favorite back to school tips and ideas. I know you have a ton of things to do to prepare, so I thought I’d keep it short and sweet with a fun theme: something old, something, new, something borrowed, and something true…and all ideas you can use for back to school!

Something Old

Cube of Fortune

Cube of Fortune: This is one of my favorite “older” posts. Since it’s back to school time, you’re probably thinking about classroom management. I used the “Cube of Fortune” in my class as a reward that didn’t require me spending $ on cheap-o prizes or candy. Read more about it here: Cube of Fortune

Something New

back to school tip

I can’t remember where I heard this, it wasn’t from my own brain, but I always heeded this advice. Students want to know that there is room for them in your classroom. It’s ok if you don’t have every bulletin board perfectly decorated. Bright happy colors make students feel welcome, even if the boards are blank.

Something Borrowed

peanut-butter-jelly-partner-tags Teach a RooPeanut Butter and Jellly Tags from Teach a Roo: I saw these on Pinterest and fell in love. This is a fun way to group students. For teamwork, you could say, “Now work with your PBJ partner.” There are different colors, too, so you can have color groups, peanut butter jelly partners, numbers groups, number partners, the possibilities are endless!

Something True

And last, I will leave you with something true from one of my favorite classroom management gurus, Harry Wong. I always re-read The First Days of School before the start of every school year.
